Alternative Names Cu (Chemical symbol)
Notes
  • A metal. Copper is a trace element required for the formation of haemoglobin and melanin, and is a component of several blood proteins and enzyme systems involved in redox reactions (B32.2.w23, B120).
  • Excess copper may be ingested as copper sulphate (e.g. used to control the growth of algae) or in other forms, including copper or copper-containing metal objects (B15, B32.36.w30).
Taxa Groups (hyperlinked if included as Wildpro Modules) containing host species which have been recorded as infected by this organism.
Associated Waterfowl Diseases Copper Toxicity (Copper Toxicosis, Copper Poisoning, Copper Sulphate Poisoning) Waterfowl Disease Summary Sudden death or anorexia and paralysis of the legs associated with the ingestion of copper, for example in the form of copper sulphate used to control algal growth (B15, (B32.36.w30).
Waterfowl in which the associated disease has been recorded.
