  • Direct application to the body of extreme heat may cause burns.
  • In waterfowl this is probably most likely to occur due to the incorrect application (i.e. without padding) of hot water bottles or heat pads when warming a hypothermic bird, or from contact of an anaesthetized bird with a heat pad (too hot, or marginally too hot and contact prolonged) during surgery.
