  • Fibrous, indigestible material is recognized to carry an associated risk of becoming impacted within the gastro-intestinal tract, where it may prevent other food items from passing through the tract.
  • In waterfowl, impaction due to fibrous material may occur under the tongue, as well as further down the gastro-intestinal tract.
  • Lack of fibrous material in the diet may be associated with the development of dental and/or digestive problems in species which have evolved to ingest significant quantities of fibrous material.
