|Holland Park Ecology Centre is run by the Royal Borough of Kensington and
Chelsea (RBKC). We are situated in an old stable within Holland Park.
The centre is not
primarily a drop in or visitor centre, gearing as we do to pre-booked school groups. The
office is staffed 9 - 5 Monday to Friday.
We offer schools (from anywhere, but generally London) the opportunity to study
habitats. We have access to a wildlife area containing pond, wood and small meadow
habitats. The majority of schools come to study Key Stage 1 and 2 topics.
We have some equipment for use by secondary schools.
We make a charge to all schools if they wish a member of ecology staff to assist
running the session, currently this is £44 for a two hour session.
Schools within RBKC are not charged for each pupil, schools outside of RBKC are charged
(currently) £2.25 per pupil to visit (prices are higher for secondary schools).
During all three half term holidays, Easter holiday and the summer holiday we run
children's activities. These cover a diversity of topics from pond-dipping to art and
craft. They are open to 5 - 10 year olds. Under 8's need to be accompanied by an adult.
Pre-booking is essential. At present these activities cost £2.50 per child per session.
Sessions run from 10-noon and 2-4pm. Generally we run them 5 days a week during the
summer, but they vary during the other holidays.
