Who we are

Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center (NPWRC), located near Jamestown, North Dakota, is one of many science centers operated by the Biological Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey, a bureau of the U.S. Department of the Interior.

What we do

Biological Resources Division Mission:

  • The Biological Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey works with others to provide the scientific understanding and technologies needed to support the sound management and conservation of our nation's biological resources.

Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center Mission:

  • To develop research information on the quantitative ecological requirements for sustainable wildlife populations.
  • To design and conduct studies of numbers and distribution of flora and fauna including identification of change resulting from habitat loss and modification.
  • To disseminate the latest in technical information and research findings such that interested audiences benefit to the maximum extent possible.
