Individual Methods for Enclosure Design
Swinging Platform

The methods outlined in this section relate to features of enclosure construction and layout which may be used to enhance the living conditions of animals, including the use of shelter areas, vegetation, viewing platforms and climbing structures.

Swinging Platform

Method Thick wooden board 4 feet long x 3 feet wide secured onto metal climbing framework by chains at the corners.
Species Chimpanzee, Gorilla.
Purpose Sturdy, mobile platform to develop sense of balance. Provides an unpredictable, wide platform as opposed to a rope or narrow swing.
Pro --
Con Too sturdy - need more unpredictable platform.
Improvements Have boards of different sizes.
Comments Could be used for all primate species by varying the size and weight of the swinging platform.
