Individual Methods for Enclosure Design
Viewing Platform

The methods outlined in this section relate to features of enclosure construction and layout which may be used to enhance the living conditions of animals, including the use of shelter areas, vegetation, viewing platforms and climbing structures.

Viewing Platform

Method Located in high area looking out from the enclosure.
Species Diana Monkey, Chimpanzee, and Gorilla in particular, most Monkeys.
Purpose Allows animals to look out at surrounding environment, and view other animals and locations.

Improvements With territorial species of primates, allows exhibition of displays if they are housed near another group of conspecifics.
Comments Males of two groups of Diana monkeys located in the Monkey House and gorilla enclosure at Edinburgh Zoo display to each other from the tops of the enclosures.
