Individual Methods for Feeding Methods - Device
Floating Feeder

The feeding methods outlined in this section require prior preparation in terms of making devices for use by the animals, including items that must be opened or manipulated to obtain food, frames to hold food items, and containers that randomly release food such as insects.

Floating Feeder

Method Plastic float 16 inches by 12 inches, with a 4 inch diameter hole in the centre. Food (dead mice, chicks, fish, meat, etc.) placed in the float, which is thrown into the water, face up or face down on a random basis.
Species Short-clawed Otter.
Purpose Puzzle feeder for use in the water, requiring the animals to forage underwater or while balancing on the float.
Pro Reduces the risk of fouling the water with uneaten food.

Improvements Unpredictability can be achieved by varying whether the access point to food is above or under the water.
