Individual Methods for Feeding Methods - Device
Foraging Trough

The feeding methods outlined in this section require prior preparation in terms of making devices for use by the animals, including items that must be opened or manipulated to obtain food, frames to hold food items, and containers that randomly release food such as insects.

Foraging Trough

Method Long tray hung from mesh wall or suspended from roof. Filled partly with bark, with seeds, nuts, fruit, etc. mixed in.
Species Parrots.
Purpose Foraging substrate that can be moved around the enclosure.
Pro More easily cleaned than entire enclosure floor.
Con --
Improvements Use deeper, differently shaped troughs to add to the difficulty of obtaining the food.
Comments Green-winged Macaws preferentially choose this item over all other feeding devices, including open food bowls.
