Individual Methods for Feeding Methods - Device
Peanut Feeder

The feeding methods outlined in this section require prior preparation in terms of making devices for use by the animals, including items that must be opened or manipulated to obtain food, frames to hold food items, and containers that randomly release food such as insects.

Peanut Feeder

Method Large plastic container with a 3-4 inch hole cut in one side, filled with peanuts, vegetables and browse. As the giraffe’s head is too large to fit through the hole, it must use its tongue to obtain the food.
Species Giraffe.
Purpose Food puzzle which promotes use of prehensile tongue to obtain food as it would be used in the wild.
Pro Small entrance to food container helps deter crows and other birds stealing food.
