Individual Methods for Feeding Methods - Device
Pine Cones

The feeding methods outlined in this section require prior preparation in terms of making devices for use by the animals, including items that must be opened or manipulated to obtain food, frames to hold food items, and containers that randomly release food such as insects.

Pine Cones

Method When dry, pine cones open up. By forcing the open cone into a bucket of soaking wheat, cone closes up and traps some of the wheat between layers.
Species Most Monkeys.
Purpose Stimulates foraging activity, and encourages development of manipulative ability.
Pro Looks very natural to the public, is quick to make, and is a good way of getting monkeys to eat wheat.

Comments Lion-tailed Macaques just bite through the pine cones rather than picking out the wheat.
