Individual Methods for Feeding Methods - Device
Poster Tubes

The feeding methods outlined in this section require prior preparation in terms of making devices for use by the animals, including items that must be opened or manipulated to obtain food, frames to hold food items, and containers that randomly release food such as insects.

Poster Tubes

Method Cardboard tubes stuffed with food treats and straw. Alternatively, the larger tubes from carpet rolls may be used.
Species Ring-tailed Lemur, Chimpanzee, Gorilla, most Monkeys except Spectacled Langur.
Purpose Simple feeding puzzle.
Pro Ring-tailed Lemurs don’t rip cardboard tubes, so they can be reused.
Con Lion-tailed Macaques bite and rip tubes.
Improvements Hang tubes in positions that are difficult to reach.
Comments The public can perceive the enclosure as being messy, though the reason for this can be explained with a sign.
Frequency of Use 1 Day per Fortnight.
