Individual Methods for Feeding
Methods - Practices
The practices outlined in this section relate
to methods of food presentation that do not require the use of special materials or
devices. Scatter feeds, use of specific locations, and methods of ensuring that specific
animals receive required medications and dietary supplements are dealt with.
||All penguins are fed fish by hand
by the keepers each day.
||To ensure that all of the birds
are healthy, and get a share of food. Additionally, birds become used to the presence of
the keepers, so are not stressed by their presence during the breeding season.
||Makes feeding of dietary
supplements such as vitamins, and medications easy, as they can be placed inside fish fed
to specific birds.
||Very time consuming.
||With over 200 birds in the penguin
enclosure, monitoring and general management would be almost impossible without hand
