Scatter Feeds (Indoors)
The practices outlined in this section relate
to methods of food presentation that do not require the use of special materials or
devices. Scatter feeds, use of specific locations, and methods of ensuring that specific
animals receive required medications and dietary supplements are dealt with.
||Food is hidden in the floor
substrate (straw), or scattered onto the roof mesh of the indoor enclosure.
||All Primates not totally arboreal.
||Increase foraging time and
visibility of the animals. Provides more interest for visitors.
||Straw can easily be moved about
||Vary the floor substrate with wood
shavings, bark, etc.
||Must completely remove straw about
once per week to clean enclosure. Dusky Langurs do not spend time on the floor, so do not
use the foraging substrate.
||6 Days per Week.
