Individual Methods for Feeding Methods - Device
Browse Grid

The feeding methods outlined in this section require prior preparation in terms of making devices for use by the animals, including items that must be opened or manipulated to obtain food, frames to hold food items, and containers that randomly release food such as insects.

Browse Grid

Method Fine mesh frame, five feet high by six feet wide firmly fixed to the ground. Branches and herbs, or pre-prepared grass and straw is woven into the mesh so that the animals must manipulate the food to free it.
Species Giraffe.
Purpose Makes small pieces of browse more difficult to obtain, requiring the animals to manipulate it with their tongues.
Pro --
Con Time consuming to attach browse to the grid. Looks unsightly.
Improvements Make a metal grid, with two layers that can be clamped together with the browse in between, which would be easier to fill.
