Individual Methods for Feeding Methods - Practices

The practices outlined in this section relate to methods of food presentation that do not require the use of special materials or devices. Scatter feeds, use of specific locations, and methods of ensuring that specific animals receive required medications and dietary supplements are dealt with.


Method Chopped up and placed in small dishes, or thrown into ponds, where it will float.
Species Reptiles, particularly Tortoises and Terrapins.
Purpose Source of additional calcium as a dietary supplement.
Pro Helps prevent excessive ‘beak’ growth.
Con Needs replacing regularly if thrown into pool.
Improvements --
Comments Can give whole pieces of cuttlebone to tortoises and terrapins instead of chopping it up first.
