Individual Methods for Feeding Methods - Practices
Scatter Feeds (Indoors)

The practices outlined in this section relate to methods of food presentation that do not require the use of special materials or devices. Scatter feeds, use of specific locations, and methods of ensuring that specific animals receive required medications and dietary supplements are dealt with.

Scatter Feeds (Indoors)

Method Food is hidden in the floor substrate (straw), or scattered onto the roof mesh of the indoor enclosure.
Species All Primates not totally arboreal.
Purpose Increase foraging time and visibility of the animals. Provides more interest for visitors.
Pro Straw can easily be moved about while cleaning.
Con --
Improvements Vary the floor substrate with wood shavings, bark, etc.
Comments Must completely remove straw about once per week to clean enclosure. Dusky Langurs do not spend time on the floor, so do not use the foraging substrate.
Frequency of Use 6 Days per Week.
