Manipulatory & Play Objects
Cardboard Boxes

The methods outlined in this section relate to the use of both artificial and natural substrates and items for physical and mental stimulation, including floating toys, nesting materials and posts for claw scraping and scratching to relieve skin irritations.

Cardboard Boxes

Method Strong cardboard box placed in enclosure. If the box has a lid, it may be folded shut.
Species Most Primates
Purpose Manipulatory object, used in displays, or simply torn up. Can also be used as a puzzle feeder by putting food inside before folding the box lid shut.

Improvements Add food items packed in straw to the box.
Comments Staples, glue and dangerous packing materials (for example, polystyrene chips) must be removed.
