The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) is the regulatory body for the veterinary profession in the United Kingdom. The RCVS is responsible for professional conduct, registration, free movement, education and training of veterinary surgeons in the UK. The British Veterinary Association (BVA) differs from the RCVS in that it is the professional body and represents the UK veterinary profession at all levels.

Anyone wishing to practise as a veterinary surgeon must be a member of the RCVS and have the letters MRCVS or FRCVS after their name.

The RCVS Library and Information Service is one of the world's leading providers of animal health information and serves all members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, veterinary nurses and other animal health professionals.

RCVS Trust http://www.rcvstrust.org.uk/

The Trust’s principal aims are to provide and maintain a library, to encourage education and training in veterinary medicine at all professional levels, and to promote veterinary research. The Trust is also charged to assist any educational or other charitable functions or duties of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. 

The RCVS Trust was set up by the College in 1958 to secure funds for the library and for advanced veterinary training and research. Three major fundraising appeals over the ensuing years (1961, 1981, 1994) raised a total of nearly £1million for the Trust's work. 

As part of the College's 150th anniversary celebrations, the 1994 appeal raised money for the subsidiary Charter Education Trust. These funds supported a number of highly successful practice-based and academic research projects primarily directed to innovation in continuing professional development for veterinary surgeons. RCVS/Fulbright Fellowships were also established under the Charter Education Trust to support trans-Atlantic research into veterinary issues of mutual interest in the UK and the USA.
