Mission Statement

To reduce morbidity, disability, and premature death due to diseases transmitted primarily from animals or arthropod vectors to humans.

Monitors the magnitude and trends of vector-borne and zoonotic diseases in Arizona through disease surveillance, data analyses, and outbreak investigations.  Monitors potential for transmission of infectious agents, that are communicable to humans from animals or arthropods, through animal or arthropod vector surveillance (i.e., plague in carnivores, arbovirus in mosquitoes). Provides technical assistance to county health departments, other agencies and health care providers on diagnosis, prevention and control of vector-borne and zoonotic diseases, including risk assessment after potential exposure to rabies.
