Further Information There are a wide variety of breeds of domestic goose descended from the Anser anser - Greylag goose. These geese are common throughout Europe and North America. Many are reared for meat production or production of "foie gras" patê in various parts of the world. Other breeds, such a the Sebastapol, are kept mainly as ornamental birds. In tropical regions (Asia and Africa) they are mainly replaced by the other domestic goose species Anser cygnoides domesticus - Chinese goose (B7).
