Melursus ursinus - Sloth bear
Kalandar with a "dancing" bear. Bears are taken from the wild as small cubs (the mother is killed). The bears are controlled by a rope through the nose and the fear of the stick of their ‘Kalandar’ owner. - a red-hot needle is used to pierce the nose and the rope then forced through. As the bears get bigger, their canine teeth are knocked out.
