| Animals of the class Reptilia. They are poikilothermic ("Cold-blooded"
but actually with varying body temperature). Characteristics distinguishing them from Amphibia include horny skin, metanephric kidney, by the embryo being enclosed in an egg-shell and having a protective amnion and an allantois; and from birds and mammals by the absence of special features, such a hair and feathers of those two groups and presence of both right and left systemic arches (fourth aortic arch - main blood supply in adult for body other than head). |
