| Filovirus | "Both Marburg virus and Ebola virus are indigenous to Africa. Ebola strains have also come from South-east Asia. Some strains cause severe hemorrhagic fevers in humans. Marburg was first isolated from hemorrhagic patients in West Germany and Yugoslavia in 1967 by contact with tissues and blood from infected but apparently healthy monkeys (Ceriopithecus aethiops) imported from Uganda. Ebola virus was first isolated from two separate outbreaks in northern Zaire and southern Sudan in the fall of 1979" (B72) |
